Solution to the downtown parking issue

A cure for downtown Halifax parking woes.

The Waterfront Development Corporation is opening up overnight parking spots in a new program called “Park after Dark”.

“I think this idea is fantastic,” says downtown councillor Dawn Sloane.

It means four parking lots on Lower Water Street will now accommodate parking from 6pm to 8am for a flat rate of $6.

The owner of the Old Triangle pub, Brian Doherty, says it’s a great deal.

“It’s wonderful, it’s a great initiative and hats off to waterfront development for participating in this,” says Doherty.

He says it’s good for partying patrons who can take a taxi home and leave their vehicle downtown to pick up the next morning and it also means a reprieve for downtown workers too.

Park after Dark starts Friday night and runs until March 12 when the winter parking ban ends.
