Halifax Mooseheads
The Halifax Mooseheads lost both games on their Quebec part of their roadtrip over the weekend.
On Friday the Quebec Rempart got a first period goal and the Mooseheads never caught up, with the Rempart grabbing a 3-1 victory.
Meanwhile, the media lounge at the Centre Bionest in Shawinigan was crammed with NHL scouts as the Mooseheads took on the Shawinigan Cataractes Saturday afternoon.
They were all there to check out the third ranked goaltender in North American Mathieu Corbeil. Despite ending up on the losing end of the score, Corbeil put on a clinic for the scouts, facing 28 shots which included three breakaways, one which was a 2-0 rush. However Shawinigan took the win 3-2
The Moose return to the Metro Centre Friday to face the country’s number one team, the Saint John Sea Dogs. Saturday the struggling-of-late provincial rival Cape Breton Screaming Eagles roll into town.
Halifax Rainmen
After dropping a 108-101 decision to the undefeated Puerto Rico Capitanes Thursday, the Halifax Rainmen faced another undefeated team Sunday. However this time the Rainmen came out on top of the defending champions Rochester Razorsharks 102-99.
The Rainmen now have a 6-2 record, they host the Buffalo Stampede Sunday February 7, in what will be a busy weekend at the Metro Centre.
Maritime Junior A
The Halifax Lions had a lone game over the weekend, dropping a 6-2 decision to the Woodstock Slammers. However, the Lions have been creeping closer to .500 recently, and now have a 17-18 record.
Atlantic University Sport
Mens Hockey
The Saint Mary’s Huskies have yet to win a game with Mike Danton in the lineup, they dropped a 3-1 decision in front of a sellout crowd at UNB Friday and lost 5-3 to UPEI Saturday.
The Dalhousie Tigers split their weekend games, losing 3-0 to Moncton Saturday but squeaking out a 3-2 victory against St. Thomas Sunday.
On the women’s side, the Tigers walloped Mount Allison 8-1.
Meanwhile, the Saint Mary’s Huskies split their games, winning 4-0 over St. Thomas, but losing 7-6 to Moncton.
Basketball
The Dalhousie Tigers won back to back games over the weekend with a 68-55 win over UNB and a 76-58 victory over UPEI. The Tigers are third in the standings behind St. FX and CBU.
Meanwhile sitting just behind the Tigers, the Saint Mary’s Huskies also played on the weekend, with a 87-79 victory over Acadia.
On the women’s side, Dalhousie won both it’s games, handing losses to UNB and UPEI. Meanwhile Saint Mary’s handled Acadia 77-71.
