Mooseheads hand nation’s top team all they can handle

If the Halifax Mooseheads played every game like they do against the nation-leading Saint John Sea Dogs, they probably wouldn’t be in the basement.

Arguably one of the most entertaining games this season at Metro Centre, as the Mooseheads lost 5-4 to the Sea Dogs in a shootout Friday.

“We should’ve won this game, we had a two-goal lead in the third, the moral victory of getting a point against the number one team just doesn’t cut it tonight,” says Mooseheads goaltending coach Brad McCharles.

Mooseheads goaltender Peter Delmas stood tall for 35 shots. Meanwhile Karel St-Laurent faced 20 shots and looked shaky on a few of the Halifax goals.

The Mooseheads pulled ahead for the lead three times in the game, including a two-goal lead with eight minutes to go in the game. However Michael Kirkpatrick scored a powerplay goal after Garrett Clarke took an untimely penalty in with two minutes to go in the game.

“Those late goals are tough to take,” says McCharles.

Mathieu Corbeil was slated to start the game, however his knee swelled after taking shot to it during pre-game warmup. He is doubtful for Saturday night’s game against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
