Driver ticketed after cyclist hit by vehicle door dies

A 71-year-old man died after a collision with a vehicle door sent him to hospital with serious injuries.

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) said on July 17 that they were called around 1:15 p.m. to the North End neighbourhood for a crash. They arrived at the 3600 block of Strawberry Hill Street.

According to the release, the driver of a pickup truck opened the door into the path of the cyclist.

The cyclist was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was issued a summary offence ticket.

“Thoughts are with the cyclist’s family, loved ones and anyone that has been affected by this tragic incident,” officials said.
