Some west-end residents got a rude awakening early Friday morning.
An SUV on Joseph Howe Drive slammed into a power pole, shearing it off. Power was knocked out to more than 4,000 homes and businesses.
“We got several 911 calls from residents in the area,” S/Sgt. Brenda Zima told News95.7. “Unfortunately when the car hit the pole, the horn was stuck on, so it pretty much woke up the entire neighbourhood.”
Police arrested a young man at the scene and charged him with impaired driving and refusing a breathalzyer.
Parts of Joseph Howe Drive and Mumford Road were closed so the crash and downed power lines could be cleared away. Everything is back open.
Power was restored to the area around 5 a.m.
