Moose take first win over Cape Breton

The Halifax Mooseheads earned a 3-2 win over their provincial rival Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Saturday at the Metro Centre.
“We felt tonight that we needed that energy level,” said head coach Cam Russell.
“I thought our whole team played very well, it was a good team win.”
After blowing a two-goal lead late in the third period Friday night against the Saint John Sea Dogs, the Mooseheads looked to redeem themselves.
Captain Tomas Knotek put on a clinic, with several dangerous chances and netted the first goal just 3:22 into the game.
Cape Breton’s Luke Adam got his 38th goal to tie the game at one goal, however Knotek handed Gerrad Grant the puck on a platter and the Mooseheads regained the lead.
Carl Gelinas celebrated his birthday by setting up Gabriel Desjardins’ goal in the third to pad the Mooseheads lead.
However the Screaming Eagles weren’t done. However with 8:33 left to go in the game, Jan Piskacek notched his sixth goal of the season.
Peter Delmas started his second game in two nights, after Mathieu Corbeil took a shot to the knee during the morning skate Friday. Delmas had 27 saves, including a huge stop on a breakaway with five minutes to go in the game.
Meanwhile 16-year-old Screaming Eagles goaltender Alexandre Veronneau faced 37 shots.
Russell says the injury to Corbeil is a day-to-day issue and he’s hoping he’ll be better for the team’s next game.
