Mooseheads can’t protect lead — lose 6-4 to Screaming Eagles

The Halifax Mooseheads ran up a 3-0 lead against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in Sydney Friday — and then blew it.
The Screaming Eagles scored three goals in a three-minute span of the third. After that, the Screaming Eagles pulled ahead 4-3 in the third. Moosehead Gerrad Grant scored one to get the team back in it.
However, Garrett Clarke took a costly third period kneeing penalty which earned him a five-minute major — and will likely see him serving a suspension. Clarke has found himself in the doghouse as of late. The Mooseheads coaching staff healthy-scratched the tenacious forward on the team’s recent Rimouski roadtrip, for his habit of taking untimely and unnecessary penalties.
Eagles captain Nick MacNeil was the hero with 3:42 to go, and Jacob Legace added an empty-netter.
Grant had two on the night for the Mooseheads, while Travis Randell and Bradley MacDonald each collected a single tally. Cape Breton fired 44 shots at Mooseheads goaltender Mathieu Corbeil, meanwhile the Mooseheads only managed 21.
Mooseheads captain Tomas Knotek garnered the second star on the night with three assists.
The Mooseheads (13-40-5) play the Screaming Eagles again Sunday, this time in Halifax at the Metro Centre. Gametime is 2 p.m., you can catch the pregame show live on News 95.7 at 1:48 p.m..
