Halifax Shipyard gets $20 million government loan for upgrades

The Nova Scotia government has announced a multimillion-dollar loan to the Halifax Shipyard to help modernize and upgrade its infrastructure.
Premier Darrell Dexter announced the $20 million loan, an investment he says will create jobs.
“Irving Shipbuilding is a company that has long roots in this province that has a great track record of being attract business and to create good jobs in the province,” says Dexter. “You have to support those companies that are here that are working hard to make sure the economy remains robust.”
The money will be spent on improving infrastructure at the yard and making it the most modern shipyard on the east coast.
Last Fall, the shipyard announced a $219-million contract to build nine patrol vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard.
