Man with nearly 50 convictions jailed indefinitely

A Halifax man with a lengthy list of convictions for violent crime has been jailed indefinitely after being declared a dangerous offender.
Christopher Newhook, 40, appeared in court yesterday.
The Crown made the dangerous offender application in 2007 after Newhook stabbed a neighbour in the face over a noise complaint.
It was roughly his 50th conviction.
Newhook also has past ties to a white supremacist group and has attacked members of minority groups several times.
Last fall, he screamed profanities at a Crown attorney while in court and threatened to cut her head off with a rusty hacksaw.
The Herald reports a judge agreed with the Crown’s argument that Newhook is a threat to anyone, anytime, anywhere.
