NS Liberal leader apologies on behalf of party

An apology today from Liberal leader Stephen McNeil. McNeil says he’s sorry for his party’s role in the MLA’s expenses scandal, a scandal he admits continues to fuel public outrage with provincial politicians.
McNeil’s also vowing to make sure the abuse ends. He says all three political parties have been involved in what he describes as a system of secrecy that has led to the abuse and created widespread public cynicism.
The Liberal leader says he’s had a look at the Dexter government’s proposed legislation to fix-up the mess and he likes what he sees. But he wants the government to go further, perhaps adopting a code of ethics for MLA’s.
McNeil also says he’s still very much in the dark over David Wilson’s decision to resign as the Liberal MLA for Glace Bay. Wilson resigned and hired a lawyer after being asked to meet with the auditor general who is now involved in a forensic investigation into the expenses of some MLA’s. McNeil does say he checked with his remaining MLA’s and all have assured him they have not been asked to meet with the AG.
