Norovirus outbreak closes Halifax-area facilities

Three more medical facilities have been closed down because of an outbreak of a norovirus-like illness.
Haliburton Place, a long-term care facility at Hants Community Hospital, is currently closed to visitors.
It was shut down a day after Capital Health officials closed down a nursing unit at Dartmouth General and another at the Halifax Infirmary.
Visitors will only be allowed in for compassionate reasons.
A Capital Health spokesperson tells the CBC norovirus infections are common at this time of year and they spread easily when people are living in close proximity.
Within the last two weeks, a general surgery site at the Halifax Infirmary and a nursing home in Musquodoboit Harbour were both closed because of a norovirus outbreak.
Symptoms of norovirus include sudden nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps.
