Budding musicians get their own studio in Uniacke Square

Halifax’s newest music studio has opened it’s doors.
Centerline Studio, located in Uniacke Square, is designed to give budding artists a place to shine.
Everyone from the police chief to Mayor Peter Kelly was on hand for the opening on Wednesday afternoon.
The project received funding support from several sources, including the provincial Department of Justice and HRM and Halifax Regional Police Cst. Holly Thomas says it’s taken a lot of hard work to get it off the ground.
“This studio is designed to provide a positive space for youth to gather and engage in workshops, activities and mentoring programs,” she said.
Rapper Matt Matt says he’s proud to see the new studio.
“It means a lot to me,” he said. “I know it means a lot to other people too that are on the same page as me and want to do the same things.”
Matt Matt began writing lyrics when he was nine years old.
“Being told you have talent at such a young age it really feels good,” he said. “It makes you feel good about yourself.”
Matt Matt says it’s a feeling he hopes kids in the community will get when they have a chance to use the studio.
The space will be open for use after school hours.
