Jazz Air signs with Thomas Cooke

A new airline agreement will see more flights to southern vacation hotspots out of Halifax and other parts of Eastern Canada.
Regional carrier Jazz Air has signed an agreement with Thomas Cook Canada to start up a new sun destination business.
“Very exciting news,” says Jazz Air spokesperson Manon Stuart. “We’re entering in this new partnership and we’re certainly looking forward to a mutually beneficial and successful relationship.”
The deal means no fewer than six Boeing 757’s will be leased from Thomas Cook and operated by Jazz, flying to various sun destinations.
The 757’s can accomodate up to 280 passengers and will be bigger than the regional jets and turboprops Jazz flies with now.
It’s also expected the deal will mean more jobs, but there are no numbers yet.
Stuart says the new service will be mostly in the eastern region, but not solely out of Halifax. The new partnership will add about $100 million into Jazz’s revenue.
The announcement comes less than a week after charter airline Skyservice filed for receivership. Sunquest Vacations had used the carrier for many of its destinations.
Jazz flies to destinations in North America on behalf of Air Canada. Meanwhile Thomas Cook is considered a leader in leisure travel.
