The city is looking at charging more to park downtown as HRM staff suggest a 50 cent an hour increase at parking meters.
If the recommendation goes through, parking in downtown Halifax would cost $2 an hour.
Paul MacKinnon with the Downtown Halifax Business Commission says the city is taking the easy way out.
“They’re sticking it to the downtown,” says MacKinnon. “This is an easy thing to do, raise the rates bring in some more money.”
The increase would bring in about $650,000 as the city stares down a multi-million dollar deficit.
