Public surgeries at private clinic will continue

Nova Scotia’s NDP government will allow publicly-funded surgeries to be carried out at a private medical clinic for at least another year.
Health Minister Maureen MacDonald says she’s giving Capital Health the authority to negotiate an extension with Scotia Surgery in Dartmouth.
Capital Health surgeons use the clinic’s operating rooms to conduct publicly insured minor surgeries and MacDonald says the arrangement seems to be helping alleviate some wait times at public hospitals.
Two years ago while in opposition the New Democrats questioned the former Tory government’s handling of the private clinic.
MacDonald tells the Herald there would be no point moving more surgeries back to the QEII when the province continues to lag behind others in wait times.
