A disbarred Halifax lawyer jailed for stealing from client’s trust funds is getting a get out of jail card early.
Srinivasen Pillay was sentenced just this past October to four years in prison.
The Herald reports he’ll be released to an undisclosed halfway house June 19th – just eight months into that four-year sentence.
The National Parole Board says it’s satisfied there are no reasonable grounds to believe Pillay would likely commit an offence involving violence.
He was sentenced after stealing $1.3 million from trust funds, some belonging to close friends, to cover gambling debts.
