Newer, bigger Woodlawn library set to open

After more than a year, the Woodlawn library is reopening in a brand new location.

The ribbon cutting starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, with events all day long.

The Woodlawn library was one of the smallest branches in HRM when it closed its doors in the Staples plaza last March. But it had the fifth highest circulation in metro.

Spokesperson Marlo MacKay says they’re hoping the community will benefit from its new location. A former movie theatre off Portland Street which is four times the size of the old library.

“The other thing is that we have a 100-seat auditorium in the branch which will be a really nice spot for some special events to take place,” she said. “Probably cultural events like author readings, and maybe musical performances.”

There will be events all-day Saturday from face-painting and music, to greetings from local MLAs, MPs and councillors.

The Woodlawn library will now be open seven days a week, with self-serve check-out stations, interactive media stations and extra computers.
