Are kids learning enough about history?

A ceremony for a major Second World War battle this weekend didn’t attract a whole lot of young people, leaving some to wonder if the kids are forgetting.
Student Kenton Janson says he is familiar with the Battle of the Atlantic.
“Well, I just took Canadian history last semester and we went over a lot of that,” he says.
History is not a required course for him; it’s an elective.
Les Nash, the President of the Legion’s Nova Scotia Command, says history should be mandatory.
However, he says despite the low turnout of young people at the weekend ceremony, most of them care.
“All schools in Nova Scotia have programs at November 11 and veterans visit the schools,” says Nash.
He says more people remember now than before because of Canada’s involvement in Afghanistan.
