Reward offered in cold case

The province is offering up $150,000 to the person whose information solves a 13-year-old murder investigation.

Dartmouth resident Rachel Joy MacQuarrie was last seen in the Halifax area in September 1997.

Her skeletal remains were found on Highway 101 between Mount Uniacke and Windsor in 2002.

Thursday her case has been added to the province’s reward program.

“Come to us with some information at the time they might have thought wasn’t helpful,” says Cst. Meredith Darrah. “Now with encouragement of a financial reward they may provide it to is in hopes that it might be helpful.”

Justice Minister Ross Landry is imploring anyone with information to come forward.

“If you were to ask any family member what they would feel if someone came forward with that information — I can only imagine,” said Landry.

The minister says we need to send a message to criminals that the province will not forget about unsolved crimes.

So far, none of the 60 cases in the reward program has been solved.
