Province should slow down on biomass: panel

The province is being told it should go slow on biomass.
An independent panel handed over a series of recommendations on managing natural resources Friday.
Retired Chief Justice Constance Glube chaired the steering panel.
She says of all they covered, forests need the most urgent attention.
“What happens in the forest affects everything that goes on in this area, these areas,” asys Glube.
The steering panel’s recommendation is “extreme caution” when it comes to biomass.
But steering panel member Allan Shaw says deals with Newpage and Nova Scotia Power should go ahead.
“Then we would like the government to look closely before any further biomass is committed after that,” says Shaw.
The recommendations say we don’t have enough forests for biomass to make a meaningful difference in greenhouse gases.
