There will be a large crowd in downtown Halifax today for the 7th annual Bluenose Marathon.
Full-marathon walkers will take off first at 7:30 a.m. this morning from the start line on Brunswick Street across from the old town clock.
Then at 9:00 a.m. it’s the marathon runners, followed by the 10k at 9:10 a.m., half marathon at 9:25 a.m. and 5k at 10 a.m.
Over 10-thousand runners and volunteers participate in the event, so you should expect some slowdowns if your driving downtown, or anywhere along the run route.
Halifax Regional Police Cst. brian palmeter says officers will be busy keeping traffic, and runners, on the move.
“There will be police officers stationed throughout the marathon route that will be able to help guide people through and as well try and keep everything flowing smoothly,” Palmeter said.
The major traffic note to pass along is the Macdonald Bridge will be closed today from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in both directions.
Brunswick Street between Duke and Sackville is closed from 5:30 a.m., until 6:00 p.m.
