Loblaws bringing nofrills format to HRM

Ontario-based Loblaws is turning it’s Spryfield Superstore into a nofrills franchise.

The company has announced the Superstore in the South Centre Mall will be converted to a nofrills store this fall.

That means no clerks to bag groceries, no meat counter, no store displays or product advertising.

Bruce Holland with the Spryfield District Business Commission tells the Herald he’s disappointed by the news and concerned about the impact on employees.

In a release, a Loblaws senior vice president says the nofrills model offers a “tremendous price value proposition” to customers.

Loblaws is also turning a Super Value store in Sydney and a Save Easy in Bridgewater into nofrills operations.
