Tight races shaping up in provincial by-elections

It’s voting day in two provincial ridings that lost their MLAs in the wake of the expense scandal.
Tory Richard Hurlburt resigned in Yarmouth. Liberal Dave Wilson stepped down, in Glace Bay.
Speaking on Maritime Morning, Cape Breton University political science professor Tom Urbaniak says it’s tough to predict a winner in either of the by-elections.
“In Glace Bay it seems very tight between the NDP and the Liberals. I’m hard pressed to pick between one or the other,” he said. “In Yarmouth the Liberals may have an edge, although the Conservative candidate I would not write off.”
This is Myrtle Campbell’s third try for the NDP in Glace Bay.
In Yarmouth, the NDP faces an uphill climb after the government axed the Cat ferry service.
