Business leaders show strong support for new convention centre

There’s strong support for a new convention centre from at least one segment of Halifax’s population.

An open house held Wednesday night at the current convention centre was highly popular with members of Halifax’s business community.

Naysayers were few and far between.

Paul Kent, President and CEO of the Greater Halifax Partnership says the centre will stimulate growth and attract more business to the city.

“I’ve been excited by this project from the first time I would have heard of it,” he said. “My excitement comes from a genuine interest in revitalizing the downtown core.”

The proposed facility could cost up to $500 million dollars. The city says they’re behind the plan, but the province hasn’t made any decisions.

Another meeting will be held today at noon.
