Unionized staff at a Cape Breton grocery store have voted to give up their medical benefits when the store reopens under the “No Frills” banner.
It’s still unclear what changes are coming for the non-unionized workers at the stores in Spryfield and Bridgewater.
The Executive Director of the Spryfield and District Business Commission is hoping the company is fair to its workers during the changeover.
Bruce Holland says employees have told him they are concerned about how their situation may change with the company’s decision to re-brand the grocery stores.
He says he’s hoping it’s not just about the bottom line. Holland says he’s not sure if the company is aware of just how much development, especially residential development is going on in Spryfield.
