Summer road-work season heating up

You can add another project to the ongoing summer construction work in and around Halifax.
Work starts this week on the installation of a natural gas pipeline along the Bedford Highway.
Work on the pipeline along the Bedford Highway to the Hammonds Plains Road intersection was supposed to start today, but it’s been pushed back a couple of days.
Work will last through the end of August.
There’s better news on the Highway 102 work near the airport.
Project engineer Ray Daniels says the paving work should be finished Monday, leaving just shoulder work remaining.
“Shoulder work means only one lane will have to be dropped at a time,” he said.
Work on the Larry Uteck Interchange should be finished by mid-August as well.
You can expect weekend lane closures on the MacKay Bridge through the summer as expansion joints and deck panels are replaced.
The Bridge Commission’s Alison MacDonald says the whole bridge will be closed occasionally.
“The deck panels are right in the middle of the lane,” she said. “For those, we are not able to keep the bridge open and keep traffic traveling.”
The 7.4 million dollar project should be done by Labour Day.
