Exploding bottles prompts sparkling wine recall

A Wolfville winemaker is recalling hundreds of bottles of sparkling wine because of the risk that the bottles could explode.

In a statement on its website, Benjamin Bridge says it’s recalling 170 cases of 2009 Nova 7 which were sold in May and June to Bishop’s Cellar, Premier Wine and Spirits, Vin Art and a few private customers.

The wine is safe to consume, though it may look a little cloudy, but the winemaker has had reports of the bottles exploding, which is blamed on “excessive effervescence.”

Anyone with unopened bottles of the wine in question are asked not to take them back to the store, but to contact Benjamin bridge directly.

Bottles of 2009 Nova 7 that were sold to the NSLC and Cristall & Luckett wine merchants are safe.

More details are on the Benjamin Bridge website.
