Halifax rains set new record

A new rainfall record has been set.

News 95.7 Meteorologist Richard Zurawski says Wednesday’s downpour brought between 50 and 80 millimetres of rain to the region.

The old record stood at about 40 millimetres. Zurawski says the record setting rains caused problems in some areas.

“The record rainfall gave us a little bit of localized flooding,” he said. “And some heavy rainfall, between 50 and 80 millimetres in most areas along the south shore, eastern shore and Halifax region.”

We got about half of our average monthly rainfall on Wednesday, but Richard says we can expect a few dryer days ahead.
