Pride Week kickoff set for Sunday

The 23rd annual Halifax Pride Festival kicks off on Sunday and runs until next weekend.
Robin Metcalfe, Grand Marshal of the Halifax Pride Parade, tells Metro News Halifax has always had a large queer community and Pride reflects that.
He says since the late 1970’s, the Halifax queer community has been actively protesting and rallying. And he should know he organized a march through downtown Halifax in 1978.
On Monday afternoon Metcalfe will raise a flag with Mayor Peter Kelly and sit on a convertible waving to parade-goers next Saturday during Halifax Pride Parade.
The partying starts tomorrow with the seventh annual Dykes vs. Divas softball game at two on the Halifax Common.
A quarter-million dollars has been budgeted for this week’s Pride celebrations.
