Bail granted for mother accused of abusing two-year-old

A Dartmouth mother accused of abusing her two-year-old daughter has been granted bail.

Susan MacDonnell, 42, was in court Monday following a three-week psychiatric evaluation.

She’s facing several charges including aggravated assault and failure to provide the necessitities of life.

The charges are related to a string of alleged incidents that took place between March 2009 and April 2010.

MacDonnell’s psychiatric assessment showed she was not suffering from
any mental illness that would render her not criminally responsible for her actions.

She was released on several conditions and will return to court September 15.
