Council approves new plan to revitalize Khyber Building

Regional council has unanimously approved a three-year plan to transform the Khyber building.
The plan involves more than $800,000 worth of improvements in hopes of making it an arts and culture anchor for the downtown core.
HRM will manage the building for two years and then hand it over to a facility manager.
The Khyber Society told councillors on Tuesday its group of volunteers will play a crucial role in making the centre a beehive of cultural activity once again.
Coun. Dawn Sloane (Downtown Halifax) tells Metro Halifax the three-year strategy will help “jumpstart a much-needed revitalization of Barrington Street.”
It’s hoped outside funding sources will cover the costs of the proposed upgrades.
