Mayor swims in Harbour

The mayor has taken his much-awaited harbour plunge on the hottest day of the year so far.
A small but vocal crowd cheered for Peter Kelly as he waded into the waters of Halifax Harbour at Black Rock Beach.
Not many people took the mayor up on his invitation to join him for a swim, but he says that wasn’t the point — that it was about showing the water is safe to swim in.
“This will take time to show people confidence in our responsibilities and our process and our over project — that I can’t change,” Kelly said. “The fact is, that (the harbour waters) are swimmable…that it’s clean and it’s okay to do.”
