Crime stats show victimization down in Halifax

Halifax police are happy with the results of a just released criminal victimization study.

The numbers are in and they show 53 per cent reduction in reports of “violent victimization” compared to stats from 2005.

That gives Halifax one of the lowest victimization rates out of 11 Canadian metropolitan areas.

Speaking with Metro News Halifax Regional Police Const. Brian Palmeter credits their crime reduction strategy for the lower numbers.

Reports of household victimization dropped off by almost 20 per cent over the same period, and thefts are down by eight per cent.
