CBSA: Drug bust worth over $9 million

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Mounties, Vancouver Police and border agents showed off the spoils of a major drug bust dating back to last month.  Police say the drugs were found in shipping containers from Mexico and three men could be charged.

The CBSA says in mid-September border agents searched seven containers at the Port of Vancouver.  They were said to be full of handicrafts destined for an address in the city.

When they smashed open bricks they found inside, officers discovered packages of cocaine and meth.

RCMP Superintendent Brian Cantera says in late September, police arrested six people in Vancouver and seized more than $17,000.  “The value of the drugs is estimated between $8.7 million and $9.7 million.  The amount of drugs and cash in this investigation leaves little doubt that organized crime is involved.”

Two Vancouver men and a man from Mexico could be charged with conspiracy to import cocaine.
