Another murder in HRM. And it appears this latest shooting is not connected to a homicide in Mulgrave park last weekend.Instead it appears to be a random act of violence against a delivery man.
Police say they were called to Highfield Park in Dartmouth around 9:30 Saturday night.
Sergeant Gordon Graham of Halifax Police says they “received a call about an injured man lying on the ground in the 0-100 block of Joseph Young Street. On arrival, officers found a man who had been shot. And he was pronounced dead on the scene.”
Sergeant Graham says he was found in a lobby.
Constable Brian Palmeter identifies the victim as 27-year old Donald Chad Smith of Windsor Junction. He was delivering a pizza at the time of the shooting. Neighbours heard the shot, called police and found Smith laying in the lobby.
Last Saturday night (October 16th), a Halifax man was shot dead in a Jarvis Lane apartment. Police are still looking for a motive in the killing of 21 year-old Jermaine Stephenson who was gunned down in front of two of his family members. At this point, police are unsure if the two murders are connected.
Constable Palmeter says all indications are that “Chad was in the simple process of making a delivery when he was shot. And this speaks to the character of the people involved if that’s the case.”
