Bridge closed over concerns about possible washout

A section of St. Margaret’s Bay Road is closed because flooding has damaged a bridge and engineers are concerned about a possible collapse.
The bridge is on Highway 3 west of Peggy’s Cove Road.
RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae tells News 95.7 the highway has been closed as a precaution.
“The last I’ve been told is that the bridge is compromised and may collapse due to the high water and damage to the structure itself,” he said.
Traffic is being diverted up to the 103 until further notice.
Reports from the scene suggest the bridge itself may not be at risk of collapse so much as the surrounding ground, which is being excavated for reinforcement.
Police say St. Margaret’s Bay Road west of the Peggy’s Cove Road is closed until further notice.
