Winter’s best time for brush burning

After spending most of the year telling people not to burn brush, Natural Resources officials are saying it’s almost safe to do so.

Better in a snowy winter, they say, than in the dry spring or hot summer.

Minister John MacDonell says chipping and composting are preferred, but if property owners insist on clearing their land with fire, winter’s the time to get it done, when snow cover provides excellent protection from a fire spreading and turning into a forest fire.
