Boy unhurt after fall through thin ice

A 13-year-old boy is recovering after plunging through the ice on a Sackville lake.

The boy walked out on the thin ice along the shoreline of First Lake behing the Sackville Sports Stadium on Thursday and fell through it.

His friends ran for help and two stadium workers came to his aid.

Stadium security guard John MacKay got the boy to lie on his stomach instead of trying to stand on the ice and he was pulled to shore – cold and wet but otherwise fine.

MacKay tells the Herald he asked the boy why he tried walking on the ice.

The teen told him, “It was fine last year.”
