Gas retailers seek increase in markup

Gas prices may be on the way up again – and it has nothing to do with weekly price adjustments.
The Retail Gasoline Dealers Association of Nova Scotia has asked the Utility and Review Board to increase its markup by a penny a litre on self-serve.
Association executive director Graham Conrad tells News 95.7 they’re also looking for a 2.5 cent increase for full service stations.
“But that shouldn’t cost the motoring public anything,” Conrad says. “Because, for the most part, 99.9% of all retailers charge more right now for full service.”
The cost of doing business has changed dramatically since regulation was introduced in 2006 but that has nothing to do with the regulation itself. Retailers are facing higher costs for minimum wages, credit card surcharges and security measures.
Conrad says retailers need some way of offsetting the expenses.
If the markups are approved self-serve customers will pay higher prices at the pumps.
