Halifax oval-lovers are losing their favourite outdoor skating rink for a couple of weeks.
It’s been closed to the public as workers prepare it for the upcoming Canada Games.
HRM community development director Paul Dunphy tells Metro Halifax he’s amazed by the number of skater’s who’ve embraced the oval, saying some 65,000 people have carved up the ice so far.
He also says if the long-track speed-skating events finish up as scheduled, the ice could be open to the public as early as Feb. 20.
The municipality estimates the oval wil remain open to the public until mid-March, but there’s still no decision on what will happen to it after the skating season ends.
