Two arrested after school shooting

Police have two women in custody and are still looking for a male suspect after a shooting outside a Halifax high school.

Hours after the shots were reported near Citadel High, police went to a residence in Uniacke Square where two women were arrested – one after a five-hour long standoff.

Const. Brian Palmeter says the investigation lead police to a residence on Divas Lane around 5 p.m. Monday.

“One woman turned herself over to officers earlier on in the evening,” Const. Palmeter told News 95.7. “Entry was then made by the Emergency Response Team at one minute after 10 p.m. A second woman was located inside the residence who was also taken into custody.”

Charges have not been laid.

Palmeter said they are still looking for a man in connection to the shooting, and that there are indications the shooting may be connected to an ongoing dispute between two people or two groups.

The residence was searched by the Halifax Regional Police, RCMP integrated general investigation section to see if there is any evidence connected to the shooting.

At least two shots were fired on Ahearn Avenue near Citadel High after the dismissal bell around 3:15 p.m. Monday.

No one was injured.

Two shell casings were found and police say they believe the weapon was a handgun.

Halifax School Board’s spokesperson says there was a person seen hanging around the school earlier in the day, who was not a student and who was asked by teachers to leave. It was rumoured there was going be a fight at the school.

“There was some type of confrontation, they believe with that person at the end of the day with someone, who it’s quite possible was a student,” Doug Hadley told Global News. “They were probably waiting for someone to come out.”

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
