The man with a vision of two spiraling towers situated in the heart of downtown Halifax says the Twisted Sisters project is alive, well, underway and not threatened by deadlines.
President of United Gulf Developments, Navid Saberi says the Salter Block project falling through is not making him nervous about his own project.
“We are comfortable where we are and we are diligently working,” Saberi told News 95.7 Friday morning. “We’d like to see that project happen, and also, more than that, we want to make sure it’s going to be very successful.”
The Waterfront Development Corporation recently decided to reclaim the Salter Block land after Centennial Group Limited asked for another extension on its contract to build a hotel, retail and commercial development on the site.
Saberi said it’s an unfortunate situation for Centennial Group, but added since his company owns the former Tex-Park site on Granville Street the same won’t happen to the Twisted Sister.
“We’re in the process of working the total schematics of the project. Going through the architectural design, looking at it in details of the unit layouts,” he said, adding he hopes to have the schematics finished for the 27-storey towers by the end of August, but that he doesn’t have a date for putting shovels in the ground.
United Gulf’s construction permits on the land lapsed on March 21, 2010, although it can apply to have new permits issued when it’s ready to build.
