Search for Halifax cyclist called off

The search for a missing Halifax cyclist has been called off after nearly a week of combing the Crystal Crescent Beach area.
The decision to end the hunt for Peter “Pete” White, 46, was made Thursday afternoon.
“The search has basically been exhausted at that location,” Cons. Brian Palmeter told the Rick Howe Show.
Over the last week, helicopters flew over the area, boats skirted the coastline, dogs sniffed the ground and more than 350 people tromped through the rocky, swampy, brush area on the North Atlantic Ocean.
Resources from Halifax Regional Police, Department of Natural Resources, Canadian Coast Guard, and Search and Rescue Volunteers from across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island joined in the efforts.
“We feel we’ve conducted as thorough a search as we possibly could of that area,” said Palmeter.
White left for a bike ride in the Crystal Crescent Beach area early Sunday morning and his family reported him missing Monday at 1 a.m.
His bike was found in the beach parking lot.
“The finding of the bike at that location is what prompted this search,” said Palmeter. “We have been keeping other avenues open.”
The investigation into White’s disappearance will continue as a missing persons case.
