Defence Minister Peter MacKay defends appointments

Defence Minister Peter MacKay is defending the appointments of people with Tory ties to the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

The Public Service Commission of Canada is investigating some appointments following a complaint from Cape Breton Liberal M-P Roger Cuzner.

MacKay disputes accusations of patronage, saying the selection process is fair, open, transparent and competitive.

Asked if those with political connections should be barred from getting such jobs, MacKay says quote, “You couldn’t get anybody.”
