Bridge officials say falling material was not structural

Reports of concrete falling off the MacDonald Bridge gave commuters some cause for concern this morning.

“We went over and investigated, and on the Halifax pier, one of the Halifax piers, it’s just some parging that had been put on for aesthetics, and some of that parging has come off,” said MacDonald. “So, it’s not affecting at all the structure of the bridge.”
The plan is to take the coating off, and later decide whether or not to replace it.
MacDonald says the pedway is not expected to be closed, even for repairs.
