Police and the fire marshal’s office are investigating a pair of suspicious fires that seriously damaged two homes in Cape Breton.
The first, around midnight Friday, destroyed the historic glebe house next to St. Andrew’s church in Boisdale.
Firefighters were on scene for hours trying to contain the flames. No one was hurt.
On Saturday night, another fire broke out at a home in Glace Bay.
Fire chief Jim Taylor tells Global News he’s pretty sure it was set deliberately.
“To me, based on the calls that came in to dispatch, there were ten or eleven calls come in that they heard explosions,” he said. “It sounds to me like the possibility of an accelerant used.
The house was so badly damaged a demolition order was issued.
Fortunately, no one was home at the time.
