Conciliation talks have broken off between the Capital Health district and the union representing more than 2,500 nurses. The NSGEU is recommending its nurses prepare for a strike. The offer would have given the 2500 nurses a retroactive 1% wage increase in each of the 2009 and 2010 fiscal years. They wanted a 4% wage increase in each year of a 3-year agreement, and other benefits. The contract expired October 31st, 2009. Nurses will receive ballots and the employer’s offer this week. Votes will be counted May 24.
