2010 tests show improvement in N.S. math scores

New assessment results released by the province suggest Nova Scotia students are getting better at math, but lagging a little in reading.
The 2010 test scores show 75 percent of Grade 3 students met expectations in math, which is up from 71 percent in 2009.
That figure falls to 63 percent by the time students hit Grade 6.
Literacy test scores show 84 percent of Grade 6 students met expectations in reading, which is down slightly from 85 percent in 2009.
Writing results fell from 92 percent in 2009 to 90 percent in 2010.
Education Minister Ramona Jennex calls the math results encouraging, and says educators are working to improve student engagement.
