Nurses asked to vote on possible binding arbitration

About 2,500 nurses in Nova Scotia’s Capital district health authority are being asked to vote on possible binding arbitration to settle a contract dispute.
The unionized nurses have already voted in favour of a strike to back their demand for higher wages.
But the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union said Friday that negotiators for both sides have tentatively agreed to send outstanding issues to binding arbitration.
The union says nurses will vote over the next couple of weeks on the proposal for arbitration, which would see a panel impose a settlement.
The union says if nurses agree to the move, there will be no job action.
The nurses work at Halifax’s Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, its affiliated sites, the Nova Scotia Hospital and in public health settings.
