Hands Across the Border blocks Peace Arch border

SURREY (NEWS1130) – If you’re planning on doing some cross-border shopping this weekend, you might want to avoid the Peace Arch border crossing.
Thousands of Girl Guides, Scouts Canada and Cadets have gathered for their annual Hands Across the Border celebration. It’s the 88th time they’ll gather at the crossing, waving banners, carrying flags, and making new friends.
Sue Head with the International Peace Arch Association says they’re expecting between 8,000 to 10,000 people to turn out to re-dedicate the park. At 1 p.m., there will be a parade led by the RCMP and the Washington State Police.
The crossing will re-open to traffic at about 4 p.m.
